Centralised Walk-in interviews :

Board of Apprenticeship Training (SR), Chennai, has started Organising Centralised Selections to select sufficient number of candidates on the spot for Apprenticeship Training which enables both the Industries and candidates to gat their aspiration fulfilled. During the year under report, the board organized 15 Centralised Selections in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. 596 Industries participated and 16442 Candidates were placed for Apprenticeship Training through the centralized Selections.

Industry – Institution Meets :

15 Industry Meets were Organised in this Region with the objectives of popularizing the scheme. In addition, a Regional level Industries Meet was conducted. 115 Industries from all the States in this Region participated.

Fast Track Industry Notifications :

With the objective of bringing New Industries under the purview of the Scheme,622 New Industries were surveyed under Fast Track Survey within two Weeks time. Engagement of apprentices in these Industries is quite encouraging.

Small Group Exchange Meet for Success (S-GEMS) :

With an objective of bringing new Industries under the purview of the Apprentices Act and to Place more number of Apprenticeship to Achieve the target, a new programme of S-GEMS (Small Group Exchange Meet for Success) has been launched under this Programme, a series of Meeting for New Industries nearer to their Industrial Premises Organised by this Office to Purpose the New Industries to implement the Apprenticeship Training Scheme in their organizations. Necessary inputs about the scheme, doubts / queries were answered on the spot. The Ultimate aim of the Programme is to declare that no potential industry in the particular Industrial area is left out with our Apprenticeship Training Scheme. As a trial basis to bring all industries in and around Chennai were organized at 5 different locations at Chennai.

Institution

As per provisions of Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 1973, and 1986, it is a statutory obligation on the part of every employer (State and Central Govt. Departments/undertakings/Autonomous Organisations and Private organisations) by the Act to engage a specified number of Degree/Diploma holders in Engineering/Technology and Vocational Certificate holders in designated trades as Graduate/Technician and Technician (Vocational) apprentices under the Act. The number of such apprentices to be engaged by an employer is determined by the respective Regional Boards of Apprenticeship/ Practical Training.

Quality Improvement Programmes :

Board, in its efforts to improve the quality of training imparted to the apprentices, Continued to organize Supervisory Development Programmes for the apprentices who were about to complete the one year Apprenticeship training. 26 such programmes were conducted in the Southern Region, benefiting 815 apprentices during the year under report. The programmes were well received both by the apprentices and the Training Establishments. Similarly, 78 Career Guidance programmes were conducted for the final year students in the campus of technical institutions in this Region during the year under report benefiting 2790 final year students to choose their career choice.
